Originally opening in 1990, Paisano’s Ristorante has been under its current management since May, 2003. Steve and Debbie Butland purchased Paisano’s from Kent A. Bigham and Larry Fangman at that time. Two years later in December, 2004, Paisano’s in Topeka was purchased and added to the family.

Operating under the assumption “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, Steve and Debbie have strived to continue the traditions that the patrons in both Lawrence and Topeka have come to expect. The same patrons have continued to vote Paisano’s in the “Best of” categories…Best Italian and Most Romantic…having received these awards 13 times in the histories of the restaurants

Paisano’s is a full-service restaurant Services include dine-in, carry-out, delivery, catering, banquets, meetings, and special occasions to include weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.

Several other restaurants have opened and closed in both cities but Paisano’s has remained, serving their customers the best Italian food available. As always, everything is prepared fresh daily-from their famous salad and breadsticks to their beloved pasta dishes.

Paisano’s has remained committed to both communities and continues to give support to the many requests from local charities, churches, and schools.

Steve and Debbie belong to both Chambers of Commerce and local restaurant organizations in an effort to remain current and knowledgeable about the thriving small business communities. They have participated each year in the Salute Charity Benefit in Lawrence and the Meals on Wheels Charity Auction in Topeka.


A combination of a commitment to excellence and a respect for tradition is what makes Paisano’s successful today. The company currently employs 70 part-time and full-time people. It is open everyday except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11 am to 10 pm. Friday and Saturday the hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
